Basic Revolver Guide

Written by Xenedus The Revolver is a very simple weapon that fires a burst of fire every time you click and each bullet causes knockback so it is a ridiculously effective weapon at close range. Damage Chest: 15 legs: 12 Crit: 36-38 The spread of the revolver can be found here: http://www.s4source.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=721 From my experiences with the revolver it is probably most effective when you combine it with a melee weapon (Plasma sword is particularly nice for this) If you have a plasma sword your general attack pattern is to first fire a few times with the revolver and then work your way closer to the other player and then switch to the plasma sword and dash at your enemy that you should also chain with a heavy attack. One of the habits you should get into with the revolver (and any weapon really) is to pull out your revolver after you hit the enemy with your heavy attack because as they are flying away from you in the air they make very nice easy to hit targets. If you are in a gun fight with a revolver my advice is try to get beside your enemy as you are dodging around because if you every get beside somebody in a gunfight you practically nullify the effect of their dodges for a second or two and in that time you can critical them to kill them. Using a Revolver in DM - When you are using a revolver in DM it is almost the complete opposite of using a revolver in TD because deaths matter in DM so you have to try to stick behind the machine gunners in your team and try to flank and sneak attack the enemy. The revolver is made to be a weapon that disperses all of its power over a short period of time so you have to make sure that they enemy is not moving during that short period of time. Try to avoid head to head confrontations because those generally take too long and you will most likely run out of ammo and die or if you do win you will have lost a significant portion of your HP. Look for ways to kill people that will give them little to no opportunity to respond. The longer a fight lasts the more chance there is that more enemies will appear and you will be outnumbered. If you fail to kill an enemy in the first shot with your revolver than you should either try to finish them off with a rapid fire gun if they are low on HP or try to kill them with melee if they are close enough and still have a significant amount of HP. If it looks like you are on the downside of a gunfight then retreat and try to get a good hit in with either your melee weapon or your revolver as they are trying to follow you (be sure to use plenty of walljumps)
Using a revolver in TD - Revolvers are a prime weapon for rushers in TD because it gives you a weapon that can disrupt other rushers as they rush for the ball and push people that are blocking your path out of the way. You always want to be in the front lines either following the ball carrier ready to pick up the ball if he falls or clearing a path for the ball carrier (NOTE: if you are clearing a path for the ball carrier stay close enough that you can still grab the ball if he dies... DON'T rush too far ahead) The pushback also comes in handy in many TD maps because you can use it to ruin certain walljumps (but this requires some serious aiming and you have to be very close to where they are trying to land) You can also use it to foil anchors because when the anchor user trys to land after anchoring up to his destination you just have to shoot him and the knockback will many times cause him to fall into the pit of oblivion (Station 2) Be aware that when you fire the revolver you will stop sprinting if so you shouldn't always fire unless you can't get past the enemy (you can also push back those people who like to stun you as you are going up the stairs on Station 2 to give yourself some room to make the jump)
Fighting Different Weapons With the Revolver SMG/Semi/Gauss - These weapons all work essentially the same and all share the same weakness (their ammo clip) If you have one of these firing at you then just take cover or keep dodging because these things will destroy you if you are in their line of fire. Once they are out of ammo not only do they have to reload but they also can't dodge or sprint while they are reloading so be sure to use this to your advantage
Heavy Machine Gun - Ok when somebody is using this gun you should take cover. If they are not firing when you run into them then be sure to conceal yourself as best as you can and when they get close enough walljump to get close to them and try to land some decisive shots. It will take some time for their gun to spin up before they can fire and once they are firing they can no longer dodge or sprint and move slowly so just get up close before they can spin up and shoot them while they bunnyhop.
Revolver - After using the revolver you should be aware of its fatal weakness. Its small ammo clip. If your enemy is using a revolver just keep dodging and wait for them to waste their 7 shots and then shoot them while they are reloading and defenseless
Mindshock - When somebody is using a mindshock just get close and shoot them because they can't dodge while the mindshock is activated so just time your shots with their jumps and shoot them right before they land and you should have little trouble with mindshock
Plasma Sword - Plasma Sword users hate Revolver and for good reason... The revolver and 1shot kill people if its point blank. With most weapons this doesn't matter but because there is a long delay after the Plasma Sword's dash there is plenty of time to get up close to a Plasma Sword user and headshot them for an insta kill. Just be sure to keep moving because if the dash actually does hit you then there is a good chance it will kill you so keep jumping and dodging and don't get too close (let them try to dash you from long ranges so you have more time to dodge out of the way).
Counter Sword - The Revolver also has a good weapon against the Counter Sword and that is its knockback. Because the Counter Sword's dash attacks are not as long ranged as the Plasma Sword's dash attacks then you can continually use the Revolver to keep a counter sword at arms length as you are backing up and wait for them to finish their 4 attack combo and then walk up to them and headshot them. You can also stop their jump attacks by shooting them as they are in the air just as they are beginning their jump attack. Just be sure to keep backing up when fighting Counter Swords and watch your ammo.
Storm Bat - Storm Bat has one problem that is consistent with all its attacks. It has no dash attacks so it needs to be close to attack. If you see a bat user then just let them get close enough so that they are within your revolver's range and then use the knockback to stop them from ever getting close enough to land a hit. You should also back up because you can't count on the knockback alone and watch your ammo because you do not want to run out of ammo while fighting a Storm Bat.
Weapon/Skill Combos That Utilize Revolver Revolver + Plasma Sword - Revolver works nicely with a Plasma Sword because you can use the Plasma Sword's dash to get in close to the enemy and then after you use the heavy attack if they are still alive then you can use the revolver to finish them off. You can also use the revolver to headshot a stunned enemy.
Revolver + Invisibility - Revolver works well with invisibility because you can move with your teammates so that your enemies will be distracted by your teammates so you can get in close enough to land a decisive hit while they are distracted or you can kill sword users who try to dash your allies
A Few General Tips - Use walljumps during fights because they not only make you hard to hit but allow you to take the time to aim your next shot while you are flying through the air.
- When fighting a Counter Sword the only thing you have to look out for is their jump attack... If they start to spam light attacks just hold down the fire button and aim your revolver at them and you can watch as they moonwalk themselves to death
- If somebody gets right up in your face and starts hitting you (like a CS sneaks up on you and starts light attacking) I would reccomend just looking down at a 45 degree angle and just firing because you will not be able to hit them if you just shoot straight
- Every time you fire the revolver it takes 1.5 bars of ammo away so just be aware that if you see three bars of ammo that is only two shots
- Revolver comes in handy if you are rushing the ball in TD because you can push other people after the ball backwards so you have an opening to grab the ball.
- If you come across a Plasma Sword user the best strategy is just to keep dodging until the PS user dashes and then get up right next to him (watch out for the heavy attack) and headshot him from point blank range.
- Revolver can also kill with its knockback by knocking enemies off a ledge so keep that in mind
- The revolver can fire at maximum speed if you just hold the mouse button down so if you need to shoot an enemy fast just keep holding down the button.
- To practice aiming play in the Tutorial Setting and jump around as you shoot the Sentries to get used to how the Revolver fires.
Map Specific Advice DM maps Neden 1 - Ok this map is a very good map for revolver users because this map does not have very many large open spaces where you will be gunned down more accurate machine guns. This map also has very many corners where you can wait to ambush people who pass by. The revolver is not a weapon that can effectively compete with a machine gun in a head to head confrontation in an open area. The revolver is best used as your surprise attack weapon because it has the highest damage potential of all your weapons. In my opinion on of the best things to do is to go to rooftops and other high areas and then drop down on people when they are distracted by something else. A good way to find some easy kills is to watch your teammates names on this map. When your teammates are in a fight you can generally hear the gunfire and you will notice that their name is staying around in the same general area and is either hoping up and down or moving from side to side. When you see this you should move to the edge of the nearest rooftop so that you can get a good view on the enemy your teammate is fighting. If they are just moving back and forth while shooting each other than you should drop down and try to land behind the enemy (keep an eye out for the enemy's allies) and try to finish the enemy off with a crit to the head. This kind of strategy works very effectively in neden 1 because there are two rooftops so you can overlook almost any area from the rooftops and get to 2/3's off the map from a rooftop. Another good strategy in Neden 1 is to wait in the open boxes that are lying around the ground and to jump out of those and try to get a critical hit on an enemy. If you can not kill the enemy with your first shot with the revolver and the enemy turns around and starts to shoot at you then you are better off if you pull out an SMG or some other rapid fire weapon because Revolver is not good at finishing enemies and you are far better of with a rapidfire weapon.
Neden 2 - In this map a revolver user is best off inside the warehouse. In almost any other location in this map you are going to end up on an open flat piece of land where you will get gunned down by a rapid fire weapon. When you are in the warehouse you should hide in boxes and use your teammates as distractions so that you can get in your critical hit. The warehouse is also the prime location for Revolvers because the warehouse is also where melee users gather so if you can isolate somebody from a group and tempt them into using melee than you just have to wait for them to try to charge you and either dodge them and headshot them if they are using a Plasma Sword or kill them by continuously knocking them back if they are using either a Counter Sword or a Storm Bat. On this map you want to go to the roof if you respawn on the side of the map that can easily access the rooftop (watch out for snipers though) and if you are on the roof than you can either drop in behind your enemies (keep an eye out for respawning enemies) and get a couple critical hits in as they go through the door to the warehouse or you can drop down on enemies who are trying to go around the warehouse because people who take these routes are usually alone and easy to ambush. A major no-no on this map is going over into the enemies side of the base and trying to camp there because revolver can't do much against 3 SMGs so just try to ambush your prey and kill him then and kill them one at a time because Revolver doesn't have the firing rate or the ammo to hold out in a prolonged fight.
Neden 3 (DM) - This is another map where there are certain areas you want to avoid. You don't want to get into a prolonged gunfight in the middle of the warehouse so the best places to be are places where you can drop in on your enemies and finish one off quickly and then go back to cover. Some of the best places to be in my opinion is the roof, you team's tunnel and inside the boxes. When you are on the roof you should stay on you team's side of the roof to avoid snipers (Revolver's deadly enemy) And from your team's half of the roof you should go over to where you can see the other team entering the warehouse and drop down to make some friends. After you have ambushed the enemy the best place to go is either into the tunnel or to dive behind cover in the warehouse to reload/wait for backup. When you are in the tunnel on of the best things to do is back up far enough that the other team cannot angle snipe you and then when anyone comes into view lock them down with your knockback (watch out for melee) and if they are close enough then you might want to consider pulling out melee yourself. If you are hiding inside or behind boxes which are scattered around the map you should always keep in mind that you should not try to ambush more than one player at a time because if you get into a prolonged gunfight you will run out of ammo and die.
Circle - This is the best map ever to take advantage of your teammates. Because everyone is close together you should hang back and hide behind the walls while keeping an eye on whats going on and as soon as somebody is distracted by one of your teammates go up behind him and finish him quickly then go back behind cover. This map is also nice because it is one of the most melee oriented maps out there so when you see people PS dashing in the middle of the map don't miss the opportunity to headshot him before he can start moving again. The other thing you can do is walljump onto that glass dome over everything and drop down onto the unwary combatants for an easy kill (but you have to watch out for snipers if you do this)
Highway (DM) - This map is a very difficult map to use the Revolver in. It is one of the most long range oriented deathmatch maps out there. If you are on the bottom level of the match you constantly have to watch out for snipers on the catwalk and if you are on the catwalk you have to watch out for snipers on the ground. The best places to be are around corners where you can't be easily sniped from above. Another thing you might want to try is to climb up to the very top level and try to surprise attack snipers who are sniping from the catwalk because they don't usually pay attention to what's behind them. Because there is no longer any fences stopping you from going over to the enemies side of the map use that to your advantage and sneak attack people who are camping and sniping.
TD Maps Station 2 - Ok this map is an interesting map for revolvers because it allows you to kill other players with the knockback on your revolver. Whenever a match starts you should be in the front lines with your revolver because you knockback is an invaluable asset to your team. You can aid the ball runner by knocking obstacles out of his path so you should always try to help people out with your revolver. If you are ever put on the defensive on this map the knockback also comes in handy because the knockback can ruin most ways to run the ball into the base with its knockback. If somebody tries to jump over the fence or jump around the fence then you can simply shoot them and cause the to fall off the map with your knockback. Also, If you are behind the enemy ball runner as they are running the ball up the stairs then try to push them into your fence with your knockback for a quick kill.
Station 1 - This map is a very small map so use that to your advantage as best as you can. If you are on defense than you can stop walljumpers from jumping into your goal by shooting them as they are flying through the air. You can also use the revolver to slow down the other team at the beginning of the match when both teams are rushing for the goal to give your team more time to get into position. Revolver is also useful in this map because many people like to use CS on this map. If you continually shoot somebody with the revolver when they are trying to sword you you can push them back far enough that they miss. You can also stop a CS jump attack by shooting them back before they can finish the jump attack while they are in the air. Don't stand out in the open as you will got shot down quickly in this map so watch out and keep moving.
OldSchool - This is another map in which you can use knockback to stop people from grabbing the ball and walljumping into your goal. It also has areas that are fairly cramped so enemies like to pull out their swords when they get to these areas. When they do this you simply lure them into attacking and then shoot them while they are stuck in place by delay. This is also a map where you can use your knockback to kill people. Some people like to run the ball along the rails to avoid people. When they do this simply shoot them so that the knockback causes them to fall off the map.
Highway (TD) - In this map you end up running side by side with the other team while you are dashing for the ball so take advantage of this and use your knockback to interrupt the other team and allow your team to get the ball first. The revolver can also stop those people who like to grab the ball and fencehop over to the enemy's side and score. Another thing that revolver can do on this map that proves handy is stopping people from jumping from the top level onto the catwalk under it. If you see the ball carrier jump off try to squeeze off a shot to knock him away from the catwalk so that he has to walk to the goal on the bottom level.
Tunnel - This is a fairly open map so you are going to have to watch out for snipers but it also allows you to slow down the enemy team fairly effectively as well. Just use the Revolver to knock people away who try to ambush you around corners and use it keep swords out of your way. Besides that there isn't too much to this map. The last piece of advice I have to you is if an enemy is already in your tunnel and you are not in front of him then DO NOT use Revolver because it will only help the enemy ball runner at that point (Use SMGs or something without knockback)
Neden 3 (TD) - In this map you can make use of the very large pit that is in front of your base to knock ball rushers into when they try to walljump to get close to the goal. Another trick you can do on this map is if you are fast enough to get into the building first then you can stop people from using the window to get into the warehouse by knocking them back every time they try to jump through the window which can buy you some time to regen some of your SP before you grab the ball and rush it. The revolver can also lock people down in the tunnel so use it wisely
